Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) in Practice

This spring 2024, Chalmers University offered a practical and network-building course on TIP for professionals involved in program development and evaluation at various governmental levels in Sweden.

The transition towards sustainability is changing the way we approach innovation policy.

A "transformative" innovation policy necessitates new tools and practices. It requires new knowledge, a common language around innovation and sustainable transformation, and forums for discussion, cooperation, and coordination among ministries, governmental agencies, and regional and local actors. It also requires a better understanding of how different efforts in innovation and sustainability can complement, overlap, or contradict each other.

The course focused on strengthening participants’ abilities to:

  • Understand what a transformative perspective on innovation policy means and how it differs from other established perspectives.

  • Analyse their own roles and innovation policy tools in relation to the roles and tools of other actors in regional, national, and global contexts.

  • Further develop various innovation policy tools and adapt them to transformative goals.

  • Initiate, implement, and evaluate programs, strategic plans, and tools to support a transformative agenda.

Registration is open for the 2025 edition of the course.
